With its standard Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, the Toyota bZ is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Chevrolet Blazer EV, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

The bZ has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the bZ AWD’s standard Downhill Assist Control allows you to creep down safely. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer Downhill Assist Control.

Both the bZ and the Blazer EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Toyota bZ is safer than the Chevrolet Blazer EV:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Toyota bZ is safer than the Chevrolet Blazer EV:

The Toyota bZ has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Blazer EV has not yet been fully evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

Warranty

The bZ’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Blazer EV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the bZ for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Blazer EV.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the bZ’s reliability 33 points higher than the Blazer EV.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked fifth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota third in overall reliability. Chevrolet is ranked 16th.

As tested in Motor Trend the Toyota bZ electric motors is faster than the Blazer EV RS electric motor:

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the bZ’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the Blazer EV:

The bZ’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Blazer EV are solid, not vented.

Suspension and Handling

The bZ Limited AWD handles at .82 G’s, while the Blazer EV RS eAWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The bZ Limited AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Blazer EV RS eAWD (26.7 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the bZ has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Blazer EV SS (8.2 vs. 7.5 inches), allowing the bZ to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The bZ’s minimum ground clearance is .3 inch higher than on the Blazer EV (8.2 vs. 7.9 inches).

Chassis

The Toyota bZ may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1300 pounds less than the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The bZ is 7.6 inches shorter than the Blazer EV, making the bZ easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the bZ’s rear seats recline. The Blazer EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The bZ has a much larger cargo volume than the Blazer EV with its rear seat up (27.7 vs. 25.5 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the bZ easier. The bZ’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 27.9 inches, while the Blazer EV’s liftover is 29.5 inches.

Servicing Ease

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the bZ to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Chevrolet doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Blazer EV.

Ergonomics

The bZ’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Blazer EV’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the bZ the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the Blazer EV can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The bZ’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Blazer EV’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The bZ’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Blazer EV.

The Toyota bZ has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the Blazer EV.

The bZ has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Blazer EV.

The bZ has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Blazer EV RS/SS.

The Toyota bZ has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Blazer EV RS/SS.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Toyota bZ has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console for up to separate devices. Wireless charging costs extra on the Blazer EV, and only charges one device.
